Hi, I am a computer science major, I am thinking of trying out hosting a dedicated server. I was wondering, all the professionals out there, what are the fun things you could do with a dedicated server? And any recommedations for cheap hosting sites?

Thanks guys,
have a great day! :D

hmm, fun things to do with a dedicated server. Well I don't really know, unless you want to make a web page that just runs the ascii star wars movie. That might be interesting.

However for hosting, if you want something small at first you might want to check out http://slicehost.com Its not full dedicated, but its rather cheap for a VPS. If you want fully dedicated then I would recommended checking out http://theplanet.com

Fun things to do with a dedi? I guess that might be your local community forum with a photo gallery or another fun stuff you have to share with your friends.
But the thing is that a good dedicated server isn't actually cheap, so you may get it and resell the space you won't need to others, getting host's experience might be fun as well.
theplanet.com is great, but I will go for someone cheaper, like http://www.serverpronto.com or ahosting.biz.

I dont think the word fun is the right word, But hosting a dedicated server gives you a lot more control and smoother running of your website.

I'd like to mention here dedis from [banned domain] as this company provides them rather cheap with no set up fee. Their live chat works fast and they are very friendly.

Any deals from [banned domain]? I hear a lot about them, but mostly about their huge reseller packages...
