I am trying to set up my own dns server on my computer, I have a registed domain.

I pointed my domain to my ip address(dns server) and from my dns server i added that domain and pointed to my webserver. A few hours later I tested it after the domain updated and all i get is "could not be found" error.

I have tried searching for help but havent been able to do this correctly, could someone explain how exactly i should have it, or did i miss something? Also it is all on a router, would i need to port forward some ports besides 80?

DNS propaganation can take more than just a few hours.

You should also check that your isp is not blocking port 80, as some do this to prevent people from running their own web servers such as you are aiming to do.

Try http://www.dnsreport.com and that will give you a full detail on your domain and show any errors. At that point you will then have a starting point for troubleshooting.

Have you tried adding a host record(or PTR record can't remember off hand) for www, I just did this on my home server and it wouldn't work till I did that.

I'll try and find a link in the meantime.
