No.

There is no company that will give you a domain name entirely free - unless it's as an extra item to another purchase, such as hosting.

Companies that do allow you to register a domain name for free usually retain ownership of those domains. If you build up a substantial traffic rate, they will often claim you have broken their TOS, and sell the domain at an inflated price to anybody who's willing to pay for it.

Why not just spend the $8 per year to register a domain name at GoDaddy.com, and have 100% control & ownership?

 Hi,
For all you people saying "NO", take a look at this one

http://www.freedomain.co.nr

These people provide domain like http://www.yourname.co.nr
Though they call it a subdomain I think the web address looks like
Yahoo! India (http://www.yahoo.co.in)
or
Google India (http://www.google.co.in)
They only want there 50x20 size image anywhere on the main page. Take a look at the image

//image removed

I think that's cool and quite ok. there are also some other acceptable conditions. visit the site and take a look at it yourself.

 Hope i get my answer for the "free web host with ASP support??" too
Once i get that i will mention my co.nr url too!!
 for now searching for a good free host

Chao!!

No, it IS a subdomain.

.co.nr is not a valid TLD (unlike, .co.uk for example).

The official deal is .com.nr

This company "Aquilon Ltd" owns .co.nr. They ARE giving you SUB domains. THEY own the domain name. You get nothing except a forward basically. It's no different to the free "run.to" and other addresses.

.co.nr's WHOIS record

You do not own the domain name, because there is no domain name to own. You are simply being given use of a hostname at their domain. You own nothing, and they can take it from you in an instant's notice - or with absolutely no notice.

So, again, I still say "NO!" (yup, with an exclamation mark... Next time it'll be in bold too ;))

Btw, "Good free host"... I like it, you should add that one to the Oxymoron thread ;)

yeah another one like co.nr is http://uni.cc/ , they have more features than any other I have seen and don't ask for advertising.

and as the others said, you are NEVER going to find someone giving you a free TLD. (top level domain) (unless it's a competition or free bonus, but even that hosting competition I would have doubts about)

why don't you take a look at the dates on the previous posts before you post, mate? This thread died long ago.

I'm too lazy to go through it all but I think there is a very good chance that .tk was already suggested in this thread.

I can't really speak for the mods here but I don't think they would be too happy about you actively requesting that people leave this forum and join yours.

well, now that the topic is live again i think i will add my two sense - as i think weve all said before you can't usually get something "great" for free it just doesnt work that way, as far as .tk goes it is a top level http://www.xxxxxx.tk but it only provides forwarding not DNS which is needed for any real website, also the ad is placed on it by default but can be removed, however you do need to maintain so much traffic to the site or they will take the domain back.

WILL THIS THREAD JUST DIE?!?!?!?!

Dammit, it's like that "encrypted source code" thread. Unless it gets locked, someone is going to keep on dragging it up from the bottom.
