different server this time. I'm having trouble logging in, and I'm pretty sure it's because of the GRANTs.

When I enter this line:
shell> mysql -h hname -u uname -p dbname

I get this line:
shell> ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'uname@hname' (Using password: YES)

I'm wondering if there may be ANOTHER reason... I don't have access to GRANT so I'm hoping it's something I CAN fix on my own :) thanks

I left out a very important detail oops...the server in question is unflux's :) neither of us are sure about what the problem is.

Okay first, after you enter that on your line, does it prompt you for the password? Also what did you put for the hname? Hname should probably be "localhost"

Second you also know you do not have to use the complicated commands from the console. If you want to that is no problem, but if you want the easy way out you should use MySQL Admin which is on Unflux's server. Its a graphical interface which lets you manage everything you need.

i guess i didn't say enough..oops
yes, i entered the password...and i tried localhost as well as the ip. I did use the admin tool to set up the db and it let me in, but when my pages couldn't access the db, i went ahead and tried to log in from the terminal. and it didn't work.

Try setting the password by going in your control panel and changing it to something you know. I know sometimes the default is different than your normal password, and that could be what is causing the problem.

So does that mean it didn't resolve anything? or does that mean he didn't listen to you yet haha :)

glad to see you FINALLY listened to me! ;)

actually, I know it doesn't take the password change sometimes. It's
happened to me a number of times, and I never thought to try changing
it again since it should have the first time. And it told me it did!

Oh well, glad you got it working! that's what ozzu is for. :D
