what you ask for is pretty much extinct my friend. If you are lucky
enough to fine one, use it wisely because undoubtedly it will be cut off
anyway. Why not just pay for a simple hosting account? They're so cheap now anyway. I've seen as low as $4.99/month! 8)

If you have DSL or Cable, you can set one up to run from your computer at home. While it's not that reliable, it's still more reliable then a free webhost. Plus, you can use your own domain name :)

$4.99/mo? extortionate ;)

The guys I use over at MyProHost have a basic minimalist package starting at only $35/yr (works out to $2.91/mo) which is 20Meg space, 500Meg/mo bandwidth (more than plenty for a small personal site as long as you're not uploading hundreds of photos, heh).

Here's their plans

There's no MySQL, Telnet/SSH, Mailing Lists or subdomains with that, but it still comes with the same uptime guarantee, PHP SpamAssassin, pop3 E-Mail & Cpanel that the more expensive accounts do.

They used to...

Cable doesn't give us any webspace any more that I know of (I'm with Comcast, it might be different with other providers).

My mother in the UK on her dialup account has pop3 E-Mail, but no web space that I'm aware of.

I think too many ISPs now are realising that they simply can't cope with hosting websites as well as providing a connection for the money they charge..

Yeah, I know, what we pay for broadband (and even dialup sometimes) can seem expensive, but it's really not when you work it all out... We were paying more money to @Home a couple of years ago than we are paying to Comcast right now, and @Home went bust, so obviously providers now are getting other money from elsewhere to subsidize the difference. And @Home did give us like 5Meg web space I think at the time (obviously no PHP, MySQL, etc. though).

To be real honest though, even when a lot of ISPs were giving out a few free meg of web space, they were never really that fast that I remember anyway, heh.

Ahh I see, I have been with the same ISP for 5 years now, it came with email and 10 meg of webspace. But I pay for hosting myself for my business so I don't really use it now.

The problem with the free hosts that allow you to link is that they never seem to last long.

I know you didnt want to pay for them but http://www.hamipiks.com/ will soon be releasing details of a cheaper solution to hosting images.

There could be some other alternatives...

There are many community based sites out there that have free galleries for their members, and allow external linkage/display..

One I created on http://gallery.reptilerap.com is specifically for reptile related photos, however it allows people to display those images on any site they wish.

Of course, the script is designed so that every image it hosts is tagged with a "Hosted by ReptileRap.com" message at the bottom, but that's the price people are willing to pay for free.

If these aren't just general pics, and are related to a particular topic, see if there's a free gallery out there for that subject.

What you could do actually, check this site..

http://www.photopost.com

They sell a gallery software application there, they don't host images themselves, but many of the people who have bought it use their support forums and advertise their sites. You may find what you're looking for there.

Also try http://gallery.sourceforge.net - Again, they don't host galleries & images for public consumption, they just write the software, but many people who use the software post in their forums.

I hope you can find few good companies offering free hosting.

Like UNFLUX said, this post is over a year old. I'm quite sure the original poster has things sorted by now. No since in keeping this alive to be spammed to death.
