Thoose of you renting/leasing/ect out dedicated boxes, what do you do inbetween tenants ?
Or, how do you go about screening tenants before letting them on your boxes ?

How can people be sure that the online store they want to setup on your dedicated box doesn't have a "rootkit" left behind by a previous tenant that scrapes credit card numbers & email addresses ?

With this "virtualization" stuff all over the place, wouldn't it be easy for somthing like a "rootkit" to slip through the cracks ?

You can do background checks to screen tenants but they aren't free. Securing a server is somewhat easier but the answer is that you can't be sure that the box will be secure, after someone else takes control. In between you can test it yourself. Run a port scanner and other penetration testing software against it.
