I have designed a website using dreamweaver and recently bought some hosting using a apache linux server.

I have used dreamweaver to upload all the neccesary files to the server and have put them in the 'public_html' folder, yet the webpage cannot be displayed.

I did notice some stuff regarding .htaccess file online, but there is no file of that name at al on the server and I keep receiving a 500 internal server error.

Any advice or directions towards tutorials would be awesome!

Cheers

apache.org should have all you need.

There may be a .htaccess file on the server. Dreamweaver sometimes hides those 'system' files.
However, most hosting control panels offer a GUI way to affect the permissions on the folder. Check if your host has an FAQ regarding this. Most offer very explicit instructions to guide you through.
Remember, you only need to get this ONCE. Then it will continue to work for you.

login through ftp instead to see what you get.

Make sure that the ftp is directed to the correct virtual directory of apache though.

Normally, your site should work. If you have something written in the .htaccess try removing it and check your site once.

If it still gives error make sure the permissions and ownership for the public_html is correct. Your host can help you with this.
