Not sure if this is the right board for this or not.

I know many hosting companies have a ToS that usually says something about the kindof websites that can sign up. Like no porn, etc...

Well if someone had a website that promoted hate & racism would that be tolerated/allowed by many webhosts? And if people complained to the company who hosted it about the sites content do you think they would remove it or even could??

For example on yahoo's ToS for webhosting:
Quote:
You agree that you will not: upload, post, transmit or otherwise make available any Content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortuous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, adult-oriented, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable;

Thanks.

on the Legal side any web hosting services are not forced to remove those kind of content except if they are not ch#ld p#rn or copyrighted content that signatured by attorneys..
But usually will be removed/not allowed by the tolerance of web hosting services owners.
All web hosting services hate to host those kind of contents, thats like hosting a bomb at your business since those kind of sites are the targets of hackers, pishers, spammers..

Why would you want a website that promotes racial hatred ?

On another note, one of the members of Ozzu does in fact supply that sort of hosting.

Thank you both.

No, I would never. I am very much against stuff like that.

I was wondering because there was a discussion in a online group I am in about google and a website called Jewwatch, and someone suggested contacting the host to see if they would be removed, but others were saying they probably wouldn't. Anyways I just was curious to see if it was possible or not.

Thanks again.

You know, I have been watching this thread with mild interest, when suddenly a thought occurred to me that might be of interest to anyone hosting with a company.

Do you think, that hosting companies should be forced to disclose the fact that they also, aside from potentially hosting your work, also host unfavorable (albeit opinionated) content. Why is this important for you?
Sometimes the hacker community becomes amalgamated against an individual or group of individuals for whatever reasons strike their fancy. If this is the case, and a DDoS occurs against a host, it follows suit that any other business sharing that bandwidth will also suffer.
On the other side of the coin, let's say they (the unscrupulous client to said host) carries things too far and becomes "noticed" by the federal government. It's entirely possible that the seizure writ could include any co-hosted equipment -- which may include parts if not all of your site.

That's something to think about, and certainly a question that would be on the top of my list to inquire about.

Cheers.

Yep - great post, and for us it's the fact that we just don't want to provide avenues for those people to promote those kind of websites :D

We would not support such a site on our network.
