Hi guys/gals,

I am curious to know your personal interpretation of the hosting industry word "Reseller".

For example some will call someone who rents a dedicated server from eg: EV1 Servers, a reseller.

Others might say that a "reseller" is someone who buys hosting space on a server shared with others.

Your thoughts?

Cheers,
Rose

Hi Rose. :D

My interpretation of the word "Reseller" in the hosting industry, or any industry for that matter is,
An entity that claims responsibility for larger portions of resources than any single entity could realisticly consume, who delegates responsibility for smaller portions of theese resources to other entities at a profit.
Strong with this one, the sudo is.

Hi Musik,

By the most hardline definition, we are all resellers I guess...

- a data center is a reseller of bandwith
- a "root" provider is a reseller of data center space and bandwith
- a rented dedicated server is a dedicated reseller
- a web hosting reseller customer is a reseller of space and bandwith in a shared environment

However, typically in this industry, when you refer to resellers, you are referring to the companies that purchase shared hosting space and bandwith in bulk for the purposes of reselling..
