sendmail for idiots?

I really have no idea anything about sendmail?

anyone know of a good idiots guide (i.e. not a man page) for it?

I'd like to find a nice front end mail program to use with it..

I mean, so i get that its a deamon running in the background. I feel like there are some well put together (possibly php) frontends for it??
