Can someone tell me what an SPF record is and how to implement.

Alos, how can I use this effectiviely, if my staff is on the road with laptops that may have different IP - or does that matter?

SPF is Sender Policy Framework, and it's something you set up for your domain's mail servers in DNS to prove to receiving servers that email from your domain should only come from that system, or systems.

It basically cuts out forged emails.

It works thusly;
-- Someone from mail.com sends an email out to someone at bob.com.
-- bob.com's email server checks for an spf record at mail.com
-- The message is not a forgery, so the record states the proper server for sending mail and is verified; mail passes.

If it's a forgery, the check process is done, however the mail.com server spf record does NOT match the forged document, therefore it's dropped before ever reaching the recipient.

How can you help your employees? Well, it begins with everyone responsible for email to employ SPF.

If they manage your mail servers and your DNS, the question might be better asked of them. ;)

Alright, I am tired of my Plesk based environment resulting with blocked/returned emails.

I would like to setup SPF.

What do I need to do through Plesk to do so? Instructions or links would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello, plesk does not allow for end user implementation of spf - ev1 servers has a nice little tutorial published on their forums with how to hack through this if you have admin access to your plesk server...

Hsphere (and maybe some others) - allow for the creation of spf DNS records directly from the end user control panel. However, even if you are on a system that doesnt accomodate this, you can still use 3rd party dns utilities to create such records.
