you don't really "install" squirrelMail in the same sense that you install a program, there are no exe's. And, if you're not running a mail server on your computer with PHP and a web server (such as apache) set up, I don't even know what you're doing. I'm not sure you fully understand what SquirrelMail truely is and, I don't understand what you're attempting to do.

ahh, you're looking to host email. Squirrelmail is a client, not a server. Meaning, that you need something else to actually host the email. I don't have any knowledge of this in windows but, I know it can be done. SquirrelMail is basically just a webmail client so that users on your email server can check their email.

EDIT:

http://www.pmail.com/index.htm is a URL to software that serves email in windows I believe. I know nothing of this software as I run a strictly Linux environment for anything I host.

you can host email without something like squirrelmail, it just won't have a website to check it, you'll have to use something like outlook.

HI ,

I guess here there is some problem ,

squirrel mail iis an application installed on the server side so as all the users (clients )can access their mail from the server via webmail.
ie web interface .

regaring windows and linux :

if you have got any idea regarding setting up a mail
server on linux do let me know , i will not mind changing my OS

for windows you can use that mail server I gave you a link to. If you're using linux or plan to, there are a lot of ways to do it. An email server is fairly built into linux. To manage it though, you're going to want a control panel if you're not up to editing text files. I think webmin will do this for you for free which i can check on. Check out http://www.clarkconnect.org , I have used that before and it seems to be really good if you're running something fairly personal rather than large scale. If you're looking at doing something professional, there are a lot of options.. Are you looking for something free or?

HI ,

Thanks for the info .
as far as the server goes , many say squirrel mail with Linux is much more advisable than with windows .
thus LINUX is being fixed .

I want to launch a mail server which will be doing something professional and wht i want is that the applications to support them shd be free .

ed like u said webmin .
Also the adv of choosing linux is that its open source :)

wht u say ?

If installing Squirrelmail (on linux), I've heard that QmailRocks.org is an excellent resource.
