Strange IP number

I have a forum that is hosted on my own shared server with Eagerhost. Today one of my members was logged on using a private network IP number. 10.0.0.1

I've googled and can't determine if this is a real threat or if I'm just being paranoid. Is there a tutorial somewhere that I can learn more about securing my server?
