I believe phpbb comes with very good documentation regarding installation. you have to either unzip on your computer or, if you have access to it on your server, decrompess it there, through shell if it's linux. I don't want to seem rude but, to the best of my ability, you are already in a little over your head and should just slow down sit back and read how to do things instead of diving in quite so quickly although, phpbb is very easy to install.

EDIT// reading your post again, def. unzip it on your computer first. Then, you will FTP up to your webspace (maybe public_html or www or w/e they called it.. it depends on who you're hosting with.) I think at this point you run install.php or something like it (i've never used phpbb and have not looked this up.. but I have looked at it before) and that will install for you. note that you have to have a host that supports MySQL and php and you need to have access to create a database. This means that you have to know your mysql username and password. You are better off creating the database first and then limiting the database user to just that database rather than your entire space in my opinion. From that point, you should just be able to follow the instructions on the install pages.

it does allow MySQL. what you do is log into your cPanel and go into phpmyadmin which is located under "mysql databases" create a database and user.

Database Server Hostname / DSN: localhost
Your Database Name: whatever you just named the database
Database Username: the username you assigned access to that database
Database Password: the corresponding password
Prefix for tables in database: a prefix for all the tables so if you want to put more stuff in the database, this won't restrict what you name the tables really.

if you signed up legit through this company and have a full hosting account.. http://yourdomain.com:2082/ should work and then your username and password (should be same as FTP) Before you do all of this (setting up databases and stuff) though, check if there's a link that says fantastico, if there is, I'm 90% sure it will do all of the phpbb installation for you.

tell you what, email your login and pass to me at darkermoon@gmail.com I'll then go and install phpbb.. it only takes me a minute or two. After that, you should change your password (just as procedure, not because I'm going to do anything with it.)

The attachments mod is really superflous. It messes up your forum by making the tables too wide after it inserts an image. So, I set out to make a simple image uploader that you can use while making a post. If you'd like the code, let me know. I submitted it to the phpbb mod database, but it is in the process of being added.

not useful for me, I strictly use SMF which has attachments and anything else you could probably need built in or easily installable with easy mods.
