Hi guys,
I was wondering, how effective do you find web hosting directories? Do the new users really trust the rating of WHD for web hosting companies?.

it all depends... some are good some are not. some have boosted stats, some dont. i personally dont use them, i come here and ask which ones are good, for what im doing, and which ones are bad. DONT start asking WHICH IS THE BEST and WHICH IS THE WORST tho. (i made that mistake... :( wasnt a pretty picture...) lol

Most of the listed services on the Web Hosting Directories are the affiliate links of them.
I am thinking that they have to be named as affiliated web hosting services directory not only Web Hosting Directory

truthfully there aren't any "good" directories for hosting.
dolay has it right, they're all nothing but
affilliate
links or poorly constructed to begin with.

ISPCheck is a good to start with, and it really worth it.

I feel, because of the reason that some of them are paid ones, people can't rely on them. What do you say?

With the saturation in the market, the hosting directories don't seem very useful. So many offer similar pricing and features. You really can't judge support/uptime/server response time etc.

Yup, market is full of WHDs. But still I feel if the newbies want to compare price, features of different companies, then WHD is a good choice to start with but when it comes to choosing a web host they should go for word of mouth.

There are god knows how many hosting comapnies and re-sellers only a directory that judge each and everyone independently would be worth visiting and that would be a massivly expensive job!
