What OS should Apache run on

I want to turn my old computer into a server and i heard that it is not safe to run a Apache server on XP.. is it true? if it is what should i run it on?..

I think that security is not the main issue. The issue is stability. Apache was made to be run over *ix. Period. Linux/Unix/Based/Debian you name it. If it is a development machine, ok, you can have a XP box. But if is intended to be a production server, you need a Linux box.

another thing is with you old computer... if it's really old an your thinking of hosting to the web, it's a bad idea becuse you would need speed.

otherwise, if it's a development machine, i can't see anything wrong with that.

also, i would use linux for stability

Well it's a Pentium 3, 1 GHz, 512 RAM, 80 GB. What you think? i dont need super fast just ok speed.

That's suitable for a production server as long you have only two or three sites running on it. Any "flavor" of Linux will do. I use ubuntu, but it's simply because i like it. Any distro is valid.
