Hi every one. You can all call me Tim. I'm 36 and currently live in Chengdu, China. That's way out in the western part of the country.

I understand the basics of HTML and CSS. Currently I'm trying to learn PHP and MySQL for a "little" project I'm working on. I am trying to build a website that includes a job board, classified ads, events calendar, and informative articles for the local expat community in China. I have a good idea of what I want to build and i'm looking forward to learning how to do it.

I grew up in Salinas CA, attended Chico State for a BA in Political Science. I have been living outside of the US for about the last 10 years. A year in Pusan Korea, a year in Taipei, and rest of the time in Chengdu China. I can speak Chinese at a conversational level and even read a bit.

I found this forum when I was looking for some help on PHP. I have been going slow and working through some online php tutorials and will probably be posting some dumb questions regarding that.

I'm 70 years old, retired 4 year ago but still spend lots of time effort and money on the internet.

I'm an OLD IT guy- started in IT before there were computers! I've been through all areas Programming, Systems Design & Implementation, and extensive use of microcomputers in the final years of my employment.

Presently I still enjoy working with the computer. Lots of research, planning vacations, making travel plans, hotel reservations, etc.

Have sold and bought extensively on Ebay.

At the moment, web development is a serious hobby of mine. I am proficient in html and css, I am familiar with Flash8 interface (but not ActionScript yet). I am an advanced beginner with JavaScript, simply because I understand variables, functions, constructors, and objects. I can read a JS program (although with great difficulty).

Aside from that, I am a classical pianist. I love music from that era, and the baroque era. I am interested in linguistics, and I can often be found learning new vocabulary, and foreign languages. I like to read classics, as well as horror books. Right now I am reading the new Dracula novel by Elizabeth Kostova, titled, "The Historian".

Hi, Bill Shryock here. Just found this site and will be lurking around from time to time. Of course right now I have a question so I'll post it separately.

Just a little about myself. I'm 64, been messing with computers since 1978 when I bought an Apple ][. I've recently done a couple of commercial web pages so I have been tagged to do web pages for every organization I belong to. Labor of love but sometimes it gets old.


I've been a ham radio operator for 29 years and two years ago I bought a Goldwing and have been riding whenever I can. The wife and I are riding to Yellowstone this summer and looking forward to the trip.

As far as programming, I have never taken a class. It is all self taught. I have beaten my head against brick walls for years and there just isn't much left inside there. I keep telling myself that I'm having fun.
