Hello Ozzu members,

My name is James and I'm 21, currently attending class for Computer Networking Specialist. In a month and a week I'll be going on my externship to finish off my school's program. My main focuses with computers has always been Web Designing. Started with Angelfire and then spread out to other hosting sites. Currently building my own site for Computer Repairs in my area. I have a limited knowledge using VMWare to simulate running Operating Systems such as Dos, Windows 9x/XP/Vista/and 7, Ubuntu, and as of this week Fedora and Red Hat. I use programs such as Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, and FTP clients, but with my class intriguing us to learn programs like Office's Access I'm becoming more familiar with it and learning it's potential.

All around I just enjoy learning the new dishes the net serves up, and hope I can keep it going strong. Want to make a living in this field and feel the possibilities are only fingertips away from being unleashed.

Drop me line if you have any questions regarding computer problems you're having, or even just to chat. I'm always up to a challenge, troubleshooting, and even to learn a bit or byte about the way others do things.

Thanks,
James a.k.a. Orajames

Welcome James. I'm curious what part of PA you are in. The way you described your class as Computer Networking Specialist, I'm inclined to take a guess that you might be going to DCI Career Institute at the Beaver Valley Mall (especially since you are posting from a Verizon IP in the Pittsburgh area). DCI is where I did my Computer Networking Specialist training (except they were in Beaver Falls when I did mine).

You'd be correct in that guess sir. I am attending DCI at the Beaver Valley Mall, about to finish my Network+ book and go into our last mod with Ubuntu. I reside in Beaver County, Enon Valley to be exact. I found this website at school, thus the Verizon IP (our School's provider), and at home Comcast is mine.

How was your experience with DCI when it was at its older location?

DCI was great. I totally loved it, although I think the program has changed somewhat since I was there in 2002/2003. We didn't touch Linux or VMWare. If you need a place for an externship and can't find one let me know. Just tell Peggy to hook you up with Mark Bowker at Alaron. She's sent me a couple students in the last couple years.

I'm familiar with Enon. In fact two years ago I won 3rd place at the chili cookoff during Enon days. I'm in Beaver Falls (East Vale) now but lived in New Galilee for a few years.

A class mate introduced me to this program called TeamViewer, it allows remote control to a users PC like Windows Remote Control does, but simplified.

Say you have someone who lives far away and you know the problem isn't connection-oriented or an internet problem, you can remote access their desktop with a Password and ID # that they'd have to give to you (which are provided when the program loads), and then take control of their PC and fix whatever the problem is. I think the best part of the program is that it cuts down on commute, and it can be used as a way to teach. Theirs a Presentation mode that lets multiple people connect to say a teacher's PC, and then watch what they are doing.

Its already saved me over a few hundred dollars in gas and I'm looking to buy it soon.

Oh (apologies for the double post), their thinking in the next year they'll be doing an Associates degree for all programs in DCI. It's still just a thought, but from what George Harris has pointed out and Paul, their confident about making it happen.

This would mean 10 more months of schooling of the necessary classes such as your Math, English, Social Studies, etc. to obtain the Associates Degree. If it comes to fruition I'll be reapplying.

Oh and thank you on the offer for an Externship, I will keep that in mind Mark. My name is James Fristik, incase you do get a call.
