Hello to all. I'm an older member, but freshly re energized, so I figured I better throw one of these up, as I'm sure my original got lost in space at some point. :)

I hail from Tennessee, USA. I was born and raised in a small county town, but have since moved about a few times and enjoyed city life for almost a decade now. I was recently married in June of last year. My wife and I have two dachshunds, Oscar and Tucker, whom we both love to no end. I hold a Bachelors in Information Systems with a minor in Computer Science from the University of Memphis (Memphis, TN - go Tigers!). I work as a Junior Software Developer for a large mortgage firm in the area. My hobbies include web design (mostly for fun, but occasionally for contract), reading, gaming, traveling, and hanging out with good friends. You'll find me mostly restricted to the Programming, General, and Competition areas of the forums, but I do tend to roam about from time to time. If you ever have questions or just feel like saying hello, feel free to PM me.

You can find all of my posts here, and my profile here.

Welcome to all & know that Ozzu is a great place, there's really something for everyone.
I'd love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.

Heh, not too fun, but then again, I learned a lot.

I started out on a Christmas season as temp help and got picked to stay on after New Year's. The shift I worked was 4:30am - 10am, but varied by workflow. We were responsible for loading up the delivery trucks you see on the streets. I loaded 4 trucks and a trailer to start, and eventually got into management as a supervisor.

My first supervision role was over 5 preloaders (that's the position I was in prior to promotion). Over the next few years, UPS introduced a new computer system that would actually tell you what truck and where specifically a package should go in shelf order by barcode, and naturally, I took to the system pretty quick. I took on the role of dispatching, where I monitored said system and moved work between trucks as necessary to balance out the driver loads. I also supervised our group of Early AM delivery drivers (companies pay BIG money to get these things delivered before 8:30 AM). I finished out my career with Brown in this position and netted 5 years of management experience for my resume.

That being said, the years I spent with UPS were tough. I really learned why a degree is so valuable, and gained a new respect for my father who worked in a tire plant most of his life (on 12 hour night shifts) to give us what we had. Our relationship has definitely benefited from my new-found understanding. It made all the difference to understand what he was going through.

I also learned from a lot of very wise people who had been a part of the management team for 20+ years. My people skills and grace under fire abilities increased 10 fold, thanks to the job.

Tough, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I'd love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.

We dealt with dialup for so many years, don't let speed hold you down. ;)

You know what irritates me? I personally like UPS but our parent company chose to use FedEx as a Vendor and now we can receive UPS but can only send by FedEx
