Hi, My computer is using the Windows Professional x64 OS....I don't know if this has anything to do with my CPU usage being 100% for the past 5 days or not. I have even reformatted my whole system by deleting the partion and reinstalled Windows, and still the problem remains. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this problem, please help me.

Thanks again,
Joe

Are all your hardware drivers accurate? What software have you installed since formatting? Have you run any anti-virus or spyware scanners? Did it do it right after you formatted and reinstalled? Or after you installed your software, games, etc?

well I have installed all the drivers I could, for some reason I cant install my VGA stadard video card, or my Video card Controller drivers. I dled AIM and Firefox, no games since reformatting. I ran Avast Virus scanner before reformatting and it came back with nothing, and would it be spyware if I had just reformatted and it didn't fix the problem? I cannot install the version of Mcafee that I have because of my OS.

Joe are you talking about the one that says "system idle"? It's preferable to have that at 99% -- that basically means your CPU is barely being used.

Well, that is different then and harder to troubleshoot. Can you think of anything that changed or occurred prior to this starting? It's most likely hardware related if a complete reformat and install didn't help.

Are they the RIGHT versions?

Well, they haven't actually made a video card that is really worth using the "VGA Standard" drivers in about a decade. Although, by default, Windows uses it on cards it does not recognize. Did you perhaps try going to the website of the video card manufacturer to look for the latest drivers?

Define "can't install". It says "Hey fool you can't install me!"? Is there a setup file? Or did you try to update drivers through the device manager?

If the VGA standard driver won't install, how is anything appearing on your monitor other than plain text?

Heh, AIM, and you're concerned about resource hogs? ;)

For a start, I'd uninstall AIM and associated spyware.

You're really not giving much actual useful information that will help us determine the actual cause of your problem...

Basically so far you've told us "so my car keeps stalling... but it's full of gas, and all the lights work" ;)

Also, remember that you're on a 64bit OS. There's still a lot of compatability issues. If you changed hardware or added software just prior to the problem it would be helpful to know about it.

When I say I cant install the driver for my video controller i was using the CD, I have a Radeon X800XL 256 mb, that isnt working right now cause it doesnt seem to be installed. Yes i know AIM uses a lot , but it isnt the main reason for my problem. I have played two applications of a game and ran AIM on this computer at the same time before without any trouble. I have not added any new hardware prior to the problem that would have caused a change like this. In fact I dont think I've added any new programs even prior to the problem. I just ran Avast Virus scanner and came back with nothing.

Forget CDs.

As long as you've got your NIC installed just download the latest stable versions direct from the hardware manufacturers' websites.

Chances are, the CD you got with your hardware was pressed about 6 months before you bought it, and written 6 months before that.

We've come along way since then.

Are you sure you're installing the 64Bit drivers? WinXP64 will not be happy with WinXPPro/Home/MCE drivers.

yeah I know....I'm working on getting my Video Card driver right now, but my main problem is why my system still runs at 100% CPU usage. But you guys have been great so far, thanks for the help at least.

Try using a program like pviewer or pstat or Performance Monitor to help determine what is causing System to use so much of your proc resources.

You can try programs like filemon and regmon too to see exactly what files system may be loading, and accessing.
