Excuse me if I'm in the wrong place.

I have a compaq presario laptop running xp. I turned the computer on yesterday and windows would not load. I used the original disks to renistall windows. It installed with no problems. I can see my main folder in documents and settings but when I click on it it tells me "access denied." it doesn't ask for a password or anything, just access denied.

I am not a high tech programmer, though I know a bit about computers. Obviously, I screwed something up.

can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

thanks

john

Most likely your profile before all this was set to keep your folders and files private. You will have to go through the steps to retake ownership of these files in order to access them.

In brief, and I believe this is correct: Right click on the folder, select Properties, Security tab, Advance, and then Owner tab. Change the owner in there an you should be able to get to it.
