Argh! I've had this stupid "mysearchnow.com" toolbar that persistantly appears and clears my Google toolbar. Even when I choose not to display it, within seconds it's back

I think it came when I installed Msnger Plus for MSN. I've tried my registry, no luck, tried add/remove programs - not there either. Any ideas of immuning myself?!

thanks.

do a google search for this prog: CWshredder. It should clear it our for ya :D....

Be warned though, it willd delete te registry files that house the bug, so be carefull. Soem people have said they had to reinstall thier operating system after using it. That has never happened to me, so I couldnt say for sure. Just a warning. It works great IMO and cleans it right out :)

I go for keeping my computer clean in the first place

Sorry, but I spend as much time on the internet as anyone and never ever have had any problems with spyware / adware or viruses/virii*

*except that one time i went online before installing antivirus - but that just goes to prove my point

In my attempts to clean up my girlfriend's computer I found adware-removing products to be of limited use.

The only ones that really work are the ones that highlight everything that is a possible hijacker and give you the option to remove the good with the bad - but these are no good if you don't know what you are doing. And I don't

prevention is easier and better than curing - let this be a lesson to you.

Thats an interesting thing rtm. My brothers dads comp and my brothers comp seem to be always getting virisus and adware and spyware and all that. I never have. Once i had the toolbar in question, but thats about it. Just watching what you are doing and where you surf, can help prevent problems. Not to mention a good anitivirus software. You are absolutly right, prevention is better that curing,

So true. I went over to a friends to clean up his comp, and he had over 300 some viruses. Apparently he was pretty heavy into porn. Rather embarrasing for us both. He mummbled somthing about to man pop-ups. Ug........ ;)

you mainly get these tools bars when messing around in warez and pornographic sites. I see it all the time. you get to a warez site were your about to download . . . . and it pops up and askes you to click yes to install you click no it comes back . . . moral of the story nothings free if your going
to get warez your computer will get infected.

you reallyhave no reason to get a mass amount of spyware/adware unless your in a wbsite that calls for such a thing.

dont get me wrong emitind. im just saying in general these toolbars dont get on your computer by themselves. such as another post i saw that was asking about the XXXtoolbar. you dont get a XXXtoolbar from yahoo or disney.com . . . you just got to be careful.

probably when installing MSN plus you didnt uncheck a small option that says install [blank] toolbar

I couldn't agree more. A great program for prevention is SpywareBlaster

I've used this program for about a year and never have a problem with spyware. It prevents spyware from installing.

Also, everyone should learn what processes normally run on their system. Open task manager. Become familiar with the programs that are running. In the future, if you see something you don't recognize, you can immediately do a search for that particular program to find out exactly what it is. Same thing applies with startup programs.

I had this stupid parasite a few months later by error and I remove it with ad-aware, make sure you're running the latest release with the latest definitions.
Install SpywareBlaster as JrzyCrim said, take it from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/ after you clean everything and enable all protection, this should be enough to stop any parasite and other annoying things from the net.

BTW, it has no relation with Messenger Plus.
