What is the best way to distribute the Windows Security Update to all my client workstation? I don't want to go around every computer and manually download the Windows Security Update. I just thought there must be a tool out there that's free or cost very little to do this.

Another question is, is there a free ware that will search a client computer to see what Windows Update Security the client computer already have installed?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Microsoft did make this relatively easy. Start here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... style=home

Navigate to any service pack or update you are looking for. For example I navigated to this page on Service Pack 4 for Win2K:

http://www.microsoft.com/Windows2000/do ... wnload.asp

If you scroll down the page you'll notice there's an express download and a network installation download. Further down are instructions and additional links to read on network installation and deployment. The instructions are fairly easy to follow and you should be deploying in no time and never have to leave your chair.

Thanks for the response but that isn't what I have in mind. See, I want some kind of central program that will gather all the Security Update from MS and then distribute that to all my client computers. I don't want to manually go to every workstation and go to the Windowsupdate.com site and download the security update. I also don't want to use the Automatic Update that windows have builtin in their OS to update the security updates because I want to be able to view all the updates before I deploy the updates.

No, I don't think I did. What do you mean Software Update Services?

I see what you're saying now. Thank you. I'll give SUS a try and see what happens.

Sorry to bother you again, but I installed SUS to a Windows 2000 server and also configure a group policy in my client computer to download and install the patches from this local server. However, the client computer is not doing so. In one of the event logs, it said that all the patches are download and ready to install...but never did. Do you have any insight into this?

Many thanks for your help.

Unfortunately not.

I'm aware of the technology but not of the functionlity.

We will be implementing it in the 1st quarter next year.

The deployment guide may help you.

I will add that SUS doesn't support Service Packs only hotfixes.

The best solution for the rollout of service packs is by ways of Software Distribution in group policy.
