I'm having a problem with the boot process on a PC I just built. I've
sucessfully loaded Windows XP, but coming from a cold boot it looks to the
floppy drive for the operating system instead of my hard drive. I've played
with the settings in the BIOS several times (all day yesterday in fact) and
I can't figure it out. However when I reboot, it boots up fine without the
"boot failure" message. I even tried reloading the OS and I still got the
same problem. I'm scratching my head on this one.

Here are my specs:
Asus P4P800S mobo
Intel P4 2.6Ghz with HT (800fsb)
Windows XP Home Edition

I had an issue with this too, make sure you have your "Master" end of your IDE cable plugged into the hard drive and not the "Slave". Then try it. Let me know if this fixes it. 8)

Im inclined to think that your Master Boot Record (MBR) is a little confused. Do a little reading up on "fixmbr" and give that a shot - it will probably take care of it.:

You were right fade_to_black. That was the problem. Thanks for the help.
