It needs SATA drivers.
http://chmochnish.nov.ru/eng/Acer-5220-driver.php
That site links to the drivers for the 5220 model.
The SATA drivers will need to be put onto a floppy disk and when the XP disk asks if you to press F6 if you need to load 3rd party drivers press F6 and follow any instructions that follow.
A quick guide:

ITS SAY
setup could not determine the trpe of one or more mass storage devices installes in your system,or you have chosen to manually specify an adapter.Currently,setup will load support for the following mass storage devices.
<none>
* to specify additional SCSI adapters,CD-ROM drives,or special disk controllers for use with windows,Including those for which you have a device support disk from a mass storage device manufacturer press S

* If you do not have any device support disks from a mass storage device manufacturer,or do not want to specify additional mass storage devices for use with windows,press ENTER

Most likely the drivers were incorrect or it couldn't find them properly.
You could try this method:http://chmochnish.nov.ru/eng/Acer-5220-xp.php
