my work laptop authenticates user logon via an AD. i have vpn software to connect to my company remotely. when i logon remotely (which happens before I am tunneed in) the authetication takes about 5 minutes before it realizes that the AD isnt avaiable and falls back to cached credentials.

How to I decrease the AD authentication "number of retries" or "length between retire" or ??? to make my laptop realize there is no AD faster?

Have you tried booting without your LAN-cable attached?

This way Windows quickly (or at least quicker) realizes there's no
connection to a network and stops trying.

After you see your desktop you can re-connect your cable and continue
with what you were planning to do.

Apparently you have no idea what a VPN Connection is VideoRipper.

You should still be able to authenticate to your domain when you VPN in. Its been a while since I have used VPN but the company I worked for I was able to authenticate, otherwise I wouldn't have access to anything on the domain.

On the contrary, grinch, I'm using a VPN between my remote server and
my work-place here and one for the company I work for...

But you're right, I didn't read the question accurately
Thought he was having problems getting his laptop to boot/Windows login
when it's not connected to the (company's) network.

Peter.
