Does anyone know where i can download CMD O/S? I know if i type in CMD in the run box. That will give me the command. no that is not what i'm talking. I'm talking about the CMD Operating System. Where if i go to install it. It will go to my C: drive. What i'm asking for. It might be hard to get and hard to find. I thought maybe someone knows where i can get it from. Thanks.

yes i checked many of times. My Uncle use to have it on the big floppy disks not the small ones though. So i'm almost positive it could be an operating system but i'm not sure.

I'm not sure but it's almost the samething as DOS and it's an earlier version. Just basically all commands like DOS. I just thought maybe someone could help me out.

cmd is just a short version for "command prompt" which was of course
a real dos window back in win95 and before. After win98, Windows does
not have any real dos in it.

All the earlier versions were written with dos as the basis under it.

In win2k and XP, it's a sort of "virtual dos" which allows you to run
commands and tasks within a command line interface without really being
in dos. I still use it all the time myself.

So, in win95/98, you would go to Run and type 'command' to get a dos
prompt window. This is all cmd is.

No it cannot be used as it's own OS. It is not an OS. It's a fake dos that
must be run within windows because it's part of windows. What you
need to run dos, is dos. v6.22 is the last version before windows was
used on top of it. I believe v7 was used for win95.

I think I finally figured out what he's asking for. I think he wants DOS 6.22.

IBM's pc dos is cheaper:

http://www-3.ibm.com/software/os/dos/

but shouldn't the backward license still prevale - if you are licensed for win 95 or later you are licensed for DOS? (I know if you but a 2003 license you can legally run 2000 in its place)
