my husband is writing a book and has put it all onto floppy (instead of computer and floppy). The floppy is now corrupt - is there any way that I can get into it?

you can always try scaning it for anykind of virus but chances are that the disk is no good and he'll have to start from scratch.
This is kind of why the new memory sticks are coming out. they haven't been known to go corrupt and hold a ton of memory, they cost like $40 (U.S) though.

 Someone still uses floppies? j/k

There are probably utilities for this nowadays, but you can use the old DOS "chkdsk" command from a system prompt with the "fix" parameters on. Instructions are in the link.

I have got instructions for chkdsk now - but - do I have to go into dos to excecute this? Am on xp at the moment and can't find anything in programmes relating to chkdsk.

Someone mentioned 'old chkdsk' so should I use my old 98 computer - and how do I get into chkdsk on that?

I do back up - husband doesn't

Why in the world would you use a floppy to back up important information? That's like asking a bum to watch your luggage while you go to the bathroom..
