I have a computer running XP Home not very well.
However, it has some data on it which I cannot easily backup right now.
If I install an additional HDD on this computer:
Can I make the new HDD the master, load XP Pro from it, AND(this is the big one) read from the older HDD with XP home on it?

Thanks

You have a few choices. If you have the XP installation CD, you can buy a new HD and do a new installation. Then buy a external USB HD enclosure, connect it to the machine and copy your data to the new HD. You won't be able to install the OS from one drive to the other.

If you don't have the money for all that or if you don't have the CD and depending if the problems with the drive are hardware of software related, there are a couple of downloads

To check for bad blocks on the drive, download diagnostic tools for that make HD, burn them to a CD, boot the machine with it and scan the drive. chkdsk /r can also be used.

To check for malware, download, update and run anti malware from malwarebytes.org
