I'm trying to redirect the desktop folder, but it seems something is missing.

I look for help in Windows Help, and i found a topic explaining that using Group Policy i can redirect any special folder to a specific path.

In that topic there are a reference to a Folder Redirection in the follow location

policy name Policy
User configuration
Windows Settings
folder Redirection

This does not appear when i run Group Policy.

What am i doing wrong?

My user have system administrator rights and my pc is not connected to a network.

I hope the problem is well explain and i also hope that anyone can help me with this problem.

Thanks is advance

What do you mean by “redirect the desktop folder”?
The desktop folder is a bit special, Windows Help says that you “can redirect any special folder to a specific path” but the desktop is very, very special for Windows, what they mean is your other special folders can be redirected, like the Administrator folder or the shared document, My documents, My pictures and so on, but the desktop? Hmmm! Not sure you can do much with that!

Anybody else as an idea?

Hi,

Well i'm based my post in windows help

"Right-click the special folder that you want to redirect (such as Desktop, My Documents, and so on), and then click Properties. "

From windows help, topic "To redirect special folders to a specific path".

Thanks for your time

I know it can be done through tweak UI. At least with V2.1 for XP. Select special folders under my computer. From there you can select the 'special folder' of your choice including desktop. I've done this with 'My documents' but not the desktop so I'm not sure what would happen. I did a fairly thorough search to see if I could find any warnings about moving the desktop. Didn't see any. Still, you should proceed with caution.

The contents of your desktop won't be moved so you will have to move your shortcuts and other files manually.
