I have been using Windows Live OneCare for quite a while and have been pleased with the protection it has offered (until I got hit with the "System Security" rogue malware :( ).

Microsoft says that its Defender program will protect against, and clean up, programs like that. However, I was brought to a screeching stop when I sought to download Defender: The instructions told me to "REMOVE" Live OneCare.

What is going on, and what do I do? :? Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks. It answered my question and cleared things up for me completely. (I still don't understand how a rogue malware program like "System Security" was able to infect my computer. Could that mean that Microsoft did not update Live OneCare or that System Security was not recognized as the villain that it is?)

No one is perfect and anti-virus and anti-malware companies are always playing catch-up. It is very possible that MS missed this one.
