my boss told me today to disable the login window on a pc so anyone can access it without typing anything.
every time the pc is turned on it asks for ctrl + alt + del and then username/pwd, that's because it has 3 users, admin and 2 other ones, i logged in as admin and deleted the other two users hoping next it would boot and not ask for username/pwd, however it still does it. i checked in control panel/users/admin properties that there is option that goes like: ctrl + alt + del (and a golden key next to it) required to log in, this option has a checkmark and is greyed out so i cannot uncheck it.
bottomline: how can i disable the login window when booting up, it's an xp home and i don't think it belongs to the network since it doesn't have a lan connection.
thanks.
david.

1) Click Start, Run and enter CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2
2) In the list of users, highlight the user account you want automatically logged on.
3) Uncheck Users must enter a Username and password.................
4) Click Apply.
5) In the next dialog, enter the password for the account you selected in Step 2, if any
6) OK your way out.

i followed all steps, it is actually run/control userpasswords2, highlight user, advanced tab and then uncheck the "secure logon" ..., but, this option is greyed out.., would it be because it has some login policy settings ?
thanks.

Click start -> run -> gpedit.msc

Look for

Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options -> Interactive logon: do not require ctrl+alt+del, set that to enabled.

Then:

1. Log into the account that you wish to enable for automatic logon. If you have created a new account, you must log into the account at least once.

2. Run the Windows Registry Editor (RegEdit.exe or RegEdt32.exe) and open the following subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

3. Create and/or edit the following string (REG_SZ) value names with the appropriate values as described below.

DefaultUserName: account user name
DefaultPassword: account password
DefaultDomainName: account domain, or machine name (if not using domains)
AutoAdminLogon: set this value to 1
