Point me in the right direction-

I'm trying to learn remote desktop and remote admin.

I have 2 desktops at home and want to practice remoting from one to the other. But I want it to be a true remote connection over the internet, not just the local one.

Do I need to create a dmz and have 1 cpu on a public ip and the other on the local?

If so how?

The router configuration usually has a DMZ option but it may not be necessary for remote desktop. Port forwarding maybe enough.

if you are going to put it on a dmz, i will still be on the network, technically. i would suggest having a friend set up a computer you can use to remote access. that will help you learn faster. or you could always purchase a second router, change the ip settings and segregate the other computer onto a whole other network, still accessible but will almost act like the "cloud" like attributes of going over the internet.
