I have written a sample win32 application that:
1. initially opens the volume(E:\ drive)
2. lock it (FSCTL_LOCK_VOLUME)
3. dismount it (FSCTL_DISMOUNT_VOLUME)
4. unlock volume(FSCTL_UNLOCK_VOLUME)
5. close the volume handle obtained in first step.

After the program ends, the drive(E:\) becomes inaccessible. When I restart the machine the drive is accessible again.

I do not understand why the drive becomes inaccessible, also I get a message "E:\$mft could not be saved. Please save it to other location".

I have tried using command "fsutil volume dismount E:", but the drive becomes inaccessible again. Using chkdsk or mountvol does not fix the problem.

I used "mountvol E: /D" which successfully dismounted the volume. But I want to do it programmatically.

Please any help would be appreciated.
