Duplicate toolbar on Windows XP taskbar

I read an earlier thread about this, which came to no conclusion.

An additional toolbar appeared on my Windows XP taskbar, duplicating the information on open windows (e.g. an icon for each open window appeared both on the original taskbar and in this new section on the taskbar).

I am concerned that it was malicious spyware/adware effect as it grouped all items regardless of category and such grouping was not affected by the Windows XP grouping control.

I managed to get it to go away (at least in the meantime) by running numerous spyware/adware programs and rebooting.

Anyone else have experience of this?
