I have 10GB that was previously used as a restore area on an IBM laptop. It is not used and I would like to reclaim the hard disk space. Under disk management it originally said unallocated space. I selected the only choice which was to create a new volume. I now have a new volume. I have also formatted the new volume. In the help selection it states a basic volume can be extended into new, contiguous space on the same drive. When I try the commands, I am not successful. At the cmd prompt, I type diskpart. Select volume 1 and then I type extend. This does not work. I appreciate any input on this.

I have the following under disk managemeng

ibm_preload (c:) partition basic ntfs healthy (system) 42GB 9.68 free
new volume partition basic ntfs healthy 10GB 10GB free

You will probably need to use a piece of 3rd party software like Partition Magic to accomplish this.
