That link from joebert indicates that's aparently some type of filter objoct for a mathworks program (not a file).

Closest thing I could find is http://classic.chem.msu.su/gran/gamess/largefiles.html and it appears to be a "special non-Fortran direct access file (FDAF)"

I'm not sure how that relates to your games. Are you saying that the games themselves became fdaf files?

I see -- not sure what would cause that. What OS are you using?

If this happened less than 14 days ago, I think the first thing I would attempt is to restore the system to a good configuration point prior to when it started happening.

If you don't know how to do that, all the details you need are here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/defau ... estore.asp
It should restore whatever caused the files to change back to the original state.

That's too bad, because the information out there about this is extremely limited, and unless we're lucky enough to have someone who has some experience with this, I think that's your first best alternative. If you do decide to go that route, back up all your critical files to CD if you can first. Reinstalling programs is a pain, but I do understand about the files. I've retored my computers as much as anybody, and have lost countless things I'd like to have back.

That's the best I can offer for now. Sorry, I couldn't be more specific.

Where are you getting these files from? Are you trying to crack downloaded games? What type of files should they be, zip, rara, exe?

Just as a wacky idea, Have you tried just renaming the extension to .exe and running? This will say whether it really is a .fdaf file or whether its just a renamed exe file. Also none of these games would be Valve games would it? I recall they have introduced a new system called STEAM to distribute updates and so might require the client version of STEAM.
Other than that I can't find any real information on the extension, one search brought up someone with a similar problem but it was never detailed as to how he solved it..
Other than that.. Can you send me a small portion of the file? The first 100Kb or so?
