Occasionally I will download a file that is unusable because it has the wrong extention. In Win98 it was very easy for me to fix it by trying other extentions until I got the right one. I have not been able to do this in XP. When I try, the extenstion I enter becomes part of the name. Example: PIC613.jpeg.mov :x (jpeg) being the part I added.

I do realize that choosing "Open With..." works most of the time to view a file in the program meant for it. But I prefer to permantly fix it. :D

Open up My Computer
Click on Tools then Folder Options
Click the View Tab
Uncheck Hide extensions for known filetypes.
