I've done a little digging in the group policy editor and found the setting for folder options. I don't have much hope that this will work since this just sets the same value in the registry as was mentioned before. Might be worth a look though.

Go to Start > Run, Enter gpedit.msc

Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer

On the right, 3rd setting down should be "Removes the Folder Options menu item from the Tools menu".

This should be "Not Configured". If it is enabled, double click on the setting, choose "Not Configured", then click ok.

the setting is already in "not configured"..

Emo, copy the following into notepad and save as "folder.reg".

Code: [ Select ]
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoFolderOptions"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoFolderOptions"=-
  1. REGEDIT4
  2. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
  3. "NoFolderOptions"=-
  4. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
  5. "NoFolderOptions"=-

Glad you got it working! I thought you may have missed one of those entries in your registry so I thought I'd take a chance and if see if that reg fix would work. All it does is delete the value "NoFolderOptions" if present in those two keys.

I would have mentioned this before but you said earlier in this thread that you couldn't find the value "NoFolderOptions" so I went with that. :)

Hi... the folder.reg file seems to work after i reboot my PC but when i restart my PC again the Folder Options is missing again. I will have to use the folder.reg everytime i want to access "Folder Options" again. How can i permanently set the "NoFolderOptions" in regedit to dword=0000000? thank you very much.

by the way, my system is Win98.

Hello. I am going to be completely honest and just say I know very little about computers. I tried everything that was said before, but I still have no luck. I tried the merging thing and it said that, "Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator".... How do I change that? How do I go into my administrator settings? I would really appreciate a swift reply. Please help me!

Read those and follow instructions.

Make a new thread for posting a hijack this log though.

Hello everyone, I suggest just going to the start menu and choosing the search option. Enter the name of the folder or file you are looking for and just enter it. The hidden file or folder should show up. Then you can just right click it and enter the properties and unmark the hidden box. If you do not remember the name of the file or folder, then just search all folders or all files of the type you are looking for. Of course, if you dont remember the name of the file or folder, it may take a while. It still works though. This was my way out because I don't understand a word of computer language, lol.
