while setting up a usb key to boot a windows 7 i selected the wrong disk and formated my data drive and now i am a very angry man.

This recovery software i had was the king of software but it was on that hard drive too with all my drivers and system files and just about everything including the adult movies. lol

I need to know what is the most direct software that can recover most of my files apart from media which can be recovered.

I use backtrack linux for data recovery. However there was a trial version of a program either called uneraser or undelete. The trial version won't let you undelete the file but it will let you copy them to another drive, which is just as good.

The good news is that if you used the disk utility in the Windows 7 installer, it likely only did a quick format and not a full format, so the data's probably still there. Definitely check out the options Don mentioned.
