formatting windows xp

hi
can anybody give me some brief guidelines on how to start formatting windows xp and converting the system into NTFS.

also I need to create backup for all files if necessary especially norton antivirus as I dont want to update it from scratch if it is possible to keep a copy of the updated files.

mas77, you should take a few min and use ozzu's search feature. this exact question
is asked a lot and there ar emultiple posts available with the answers already
there.

as for your backup, you can't do what you are asking. If you reformat you will
have to reinstall all of your programs and update them again.
