Oops i lied, i didnt have show updates checked in add/remove programs. After checking it i see that it shows no recent updates of any kind, windows or other except on 2/10/2011 an update for adobe reader 10.0.1 (which cannot be removed). There were no updates for 2011 showing in there. Alot of times if i see windows updates little yellow shield i ignore it or dont let it install updates. Andy

Well ATNO/TW thanks for all your input and suggestions but this problem goes on unresolved for now. Andy

If this is moved to Window's forum, this thread might get a better chance of getting an answer that might fix it. As for the problem itself, I have no idea how to fix it.

Windows - You can find a link to it in the right navigation under "OS & Hardware" category.

Bogey, I already moved it here and merged all his posts.

If you can ping an IP but can't surf, it still sounds like a DNS problem to me. Try changing them to alternate DNS servers like 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2

Here are instructions on how to do that, if you don't know

https://store.opendns.com/setup/operati ... windows-xp

I don't recommend OpenDNS, however, as they redirect 404s to a custom search thingy.
