Don't know if anyone else has seen this yet, but over the last 2 days at random I've been getting pop-up ads at random that fill up the entire screen and there's no way to minimize or close them without going into task manager and ending task. Of course I assumed it was spyware, and the kicker before I nixed it today was the last pop-up message that came up. I excluded the link, because I couldn't tell where it was going to take me anyway, but if you see the following text in a pop-up such as I described, you probably have some spy-ware. Adaware appears to have removed it:

Quote:
Message from Internet Service Provider consultant:

This window should NOT remain maximized on most computers.
It is SUPPOSED to remain invisible to launch time-delayed
pop up messages in accordance with an ad-supported software
product that you may have installed on your computer.

If your computer will NOT hide this big white window, you
may have spyware on your system which is interfering with
your ability to control hidden windows. Spyware also sends
you unsolicited advertising, slows down your computer and
could capture private information like credit card numbers
and social security numbers, etc.

I recommend that you install a "spyware removal" program
so you can rid your computer of these parasites.

I strongly recommend this link.

P.S. If you are experiencing a higher frequency of pop up
messages, you should definately consider downloading the
spyware removal program. It will remove all of those
annoying advertisements for good.

Some users have reported that clicking on the white screen
will make the task bar appear below.

Correct. Even alt+f4 (for that matter nothing worked with alt) - seemed like some kind of macro. Bottom line is Adaware gets rid of it.

*lol - I wrote a script that will load an infinite number of popup windows immediately on clicking the link until it crashes your browser and/or system. Very fast. Very hard to stop. I only used it as a joke once on some script kiddies that were playing around with an old forum I used to moderate. It was fun though.

What's funny about it is that my Symantec Virus scan, Quaranteened it as a virus on my own computer! *lol. Had to take it out of quaranteen just to go back and look at it the other day.

Heehee! It does. Don't worry, though. The script will never be seen at OZZU. Cheers.

Somebody with too much time on their hands thought this up and apparently more and more are using it. A very simple javascript is what does it and launches a full screen popup with no controls. I also discovered that Ctrl+W will close it. I never knew that short cut. Anyway here's the code that makes these most annoying pop ups happen.

Code: [ Select ]
<script language="JavaScript">
<!--

function genericPopup(popupAddress)
{new_window = window.open(popupAddress,'windowName','fullscreen=1')}

// -->
</script>
  1. <script language="JavaScript">
  2. <!--
  3. function genericPopup(popupAddress)
  4. {new_window = window.open(popupAddress,'windowName','fullscreen=1')}
  5. // -->
  6. </script>
