Ok heres the deal. I was called by a user that they couldnt get on a shared drive. SO I went and looked at there pc and it looked fine, until I did a release and a renew of there ip address. It said the dhcp server could not be located.

So I put a static address. After that I could ping the server but cannot get to the shares on that server.

It is not out of addresses either

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Linux DHCP server? Windows DHCP server? Router that allocates IPs via DHCP?

Most likely something changed since last time the network was accessed. I have ran Adaware many times, and twice (on really f*&#ed up pcs) it deleted files and then I couldn't access the network-or get an ip just like you. I just restored from adaware and it fixed it.

We have a similar problem, in that our DHCP server will dish out an address, but then it wont give any more out. Give a machine a static address, works fine. Release the dynamically assigned address, and another machine can pick it up, but once its assigned again, nothing else gets one. We have had a few JET errors as well as DHCP error 1009, I am at the end of my tether with this.

My problem was a flaky 24 port switch.
