Hi there
I have the same problem as the poster a few days ago. Some or other process copies a folder named "BEJBI" and autorun.inf onto every USB stick inserted into the system.
I am not very experienced in the Windows environment but I followed my usual procedure (however hair-brained it might seem):
1. AVG virus scan + various anti-spyware
2. Reboot into Safe Mode (hopefully the malicious process won't run and lock the files I'm about to remove), display all hidden and system files, delete anything from hard disk and USB stick that looks suspicious.
3. Delete any registry entries related to file names I just deleted.
As I said, I am not very experienced in this environment and I might be missing some file or registry entry which is obviously the problem. Even in Safe Mode the BEJBI folder is still being copied to removable media.
I ran Hijack This while I was in Safe Mode. I thought that this might simplify things because 1. The problem actively persists even in Safe Mode and 2. I assume a Safe Mode log would contain less active processes, making the problem easier to find. Here is the Hijack This log:
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Kind regards
Anthony

Thanks for the prompt reply. It's the first time that I've had to use any of these tools and I wasn't aware of the Safe Mode thing.
I was able to fix the problem and I'll post the steps I followed in case it is useful to anyone else (normally I would clean the USB device on my Slackware box but I'll post the steps I had to follow while only using my Windows machine and the infected memory stick):
1. Remove the infected USB device. Now turn off AutoRun on all removable media: Go to Start->Run, type "gpedit.msc". Navigate to Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->System. Double-click "Turn off Autoplay". Select "Enabled" and select "All drives" from the drop-down menu.
2. Download and update the software from malwarebytes DOT org. Run a full scan and remove any infections. On my system the offending file was "C:\RECYCLER\nissan.exe". The system will need to reboot to remove it.
3. After the reboot, and BEFORE you re-insert the infected USB device, go Start->Run. Enter "regedit". Type CTRL+F and search for the string "bejbi". Delete every entry you find (there were at least 4 of these entries in my registry). Originally I trusted that the malwarebytes software caught everything, but got re-infected as soon as I inserted the removable media again, even with Autorun turned off. Removing these entries seemed to do trick.
4. I don't know if you need to restart the computer for changes to the registry to take effect. I did anyway.
5. Insert the USB device. Open it and delete the hidden folder "BEJBI" and autorun.inf. Pull the stick out and re-insert it to make sure that the malicious files aren't copied to the stick again.
6. I suppose you can turn Autorun back on if you wish with gpedit.msc.
Regards
Anthony
