How can I get rid of

I keep getting pop up windows in the browsers Internet Explorer and Firefox.

They are mainly trying to get me to buy anti-virus software.
But when I try to close the windows another pops up.

Also often they will not close and crash the computer.

What is the best and the CHEAPEST (preferably free) solution?
