I am trying to setup a Win2k3 server with 3 separate computers, One for Domain Controller, File server and Proxy. I installed the 1st server as Domain Controller with Active Directory, then install a test workstation to join the domin - sucessfully. My problem now is in installing the file server, I can't join it to the domain (using the method of workstation to join) it says "A domain controller for the domain test.com could not be contacted". What did I do wrong, also I would like to know how to setup the proxy server using Win2k3 as an internet sharing connection.

Typically when the domain controller cannot be found means some sort of DNS issue. Check the file server TCP/IP properties and make sure they are correct for your network.

As for the internet connection sharing, take a look into RRAS.

this is my setup, dsl to firewall (dlink - IP:192.168.1.5) to 3 server, FS has one lan card, DC has 2 lan card and Proxy has 2 lan card, IP address of FS: 192.168.1.11, subnet: 255.255.255.0, gw: 192.168.1.5; DNS lan 1 (to Dlink): 192.168.1.9 & 192.168.0.10. DC: 192.168.1.9 subnet: 255.255.255.0, gw: 192.168.1.5, DNS : 192.168.1.9 & 192.168.1.11, lan 2 (to Hub): 192.168.0.10, subnet: 255.255.255.0, gw:-, DNS: 192.168.1.9 & 192.168.1.11; Proxy Lan 1 (to Dlink) IP: 192.168.1.8, subnet: 255.255.255.0, GW: 192.168.1.5, DNS: 192.168.1.9 & 192.168.0.10; Lan 2 (HUB) IP: 192.168.0.1, Subnet: 255.255.255.0, GW: - , DNS 192.168.1.9 & 192.168.0.10. I can ping from DS to FS, but from FS I can't ping DC only the firewall. I reformatted my Hard disk just in case there is error. Is my value for the IP correct and thankyou for the ICS link.

I finally found the answer, use DCPROMO not the manage windows server on the DC (reformat it three times, until I use the DCPROMO). Now my question is I setup an account with my name as member of the administrator, but when I logon on a workstation, I cant change the IP or anything in the workstation, It say Im not the administrator. I had to logon as admininstrator cant use my name.
