HELP! i tried to get rid of a virus by reinstalling windows xp onto my laptop. but the xp disc stopped half way through the installation so now every time i turn on the computer it goes right back to where the disc left off and wants the disc inserted (which didn't work). so how can i uninstall the half installed version in order to get the comp up and running with a new disc? i tried to install a different windows disc but it would not overwrite the half-installed version? i'm freaked please help! isn't there some way through bios that even a computer illiterate like me can understand? i can not bring myself to go to the stupid "geek squad" and get robbed for some simple thing that i should be able to do myself---i hope =:)

I'd format and start over from scratch. It sounds like it pretty much isn't functioning, which means the chances of rescuing it are unlikely. Go ahead and boot to the cd and redo the install process, but don't eject the cd until the thing is working ship shape!
