Post 3+ Months Ago

Hi, I have a problem with my sound.

I have SB Audigy 2 as a default port but music doesn't play through that port, it plays through VIA Audio (WAVE). I don't know how to change the default ports and if someone can give me a step-by-step tutorial on how to do that, that would be great.

Also, on Music 1 and Music 2 tabs, the DirectMusic tests say that there is a problem.

DirectX Diagnostic Tool wrote:
*The file ac97via.sys is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer.

*DirectSound test results: Failure at step 19 (User verification of software): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)

Any help on how to solve this problem would be great. Thnx.

SB audigy is a sound card, not a port. Disable VIA in the device manager.

You can also disable it in the BIOS. Onboard Sound.

Once in the BIOS on one of the screens you should have a section for onboard peripherals. Look for one discussing sound and disable it.

When you first start the computer you'll see it says "Press Del to enter Setup" or something similar. Press whatever key it tells you to. When you go to exit you can use "Exit Saving Changes" to save the changes you made(don't adjust anything except disabling the onboard sound)

Where does it say Press Del to enter setup"? It doesn't show that on my computer. Maybe it could be disabled or something? Because I don't see it on any restart or turn off and than turn on.

Thanks Alkatr0z.

Does your computer have a image that appears prior to the boot menu?
Some manufacturers place a image in the location where it is. Normally pressing Esc will get rid of the image so you can see the boot up. The location when it happens is as its testing your RAM at the very start of the boot up sequence.

F2 and DEL are the most common keys used for accessing the BIOS. They must be pressed immediately at boot up.

Okay. I'll try those keys on startup.

I didn't find the "Audio" peripherals or anything like that. I found something like that but it still didn't work after I disabled it.
