yep -- It's called IIS in windows. Go the win2k's Help and search for it,
it's a great place to read up about it.

make sure you run a full windows update on the critical patches though, as there are some nasty vulnerabilities in 2000 that have been recently discoveredd. in fact i was playing with some of them on a test machine last week, you can easily execute code on the machine though a browser.

yep -- IIS is windows version of a web server (ie apache)

It's not easy to use, setup, or maintain, and it's definitely not as secure

you need the Server software, not a workstation. You will need Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2004.

(there are earlier versions but you really don't want to use them)

yes you're right about XP, I honestly forgot all about it. But I really don't
think 2kpro has IIS on it. Server2k was the only way to run it at that time. I'll double-check

a little digging, and this is what I found --

Win2kPro does have IIS on it but it's not called that. It's actually called
Personal Web Server or PWS. It's basically the same functionality as
IIS, but the main thing I found that is different is PWS only supports a
maximum of 10 simultaneous connections. Another huge restriction is
that it only allows for 1 website and 1 ftp server.

So, if you intended on using it for internal testing or maybe a small
intranet site for a company, it would work great. Obviously using it for
the WWW is not recommended.
